The Diva's Weekly Challenge #273: Tangle Remix

The Diva's challenge this week included some of the sweetest and funniest kid pictures ever! Ice cream, mustaches, hats, cupcakes...you really must take a peek if you haven't yet! At the end of her post, you'll see that she asked us to take a previous tile and do a remix. I chose one from a black and Renaissance tile class I took last year. I still struggle with the Renaissance tile and black, brown and white ink idea. My tiles never seem to get the glow and depth, that rich feel that others have. I've made a note to create a Renaissance mosaic in the Mosaic app, so that I can study this. (A task made much easier by the new app for iPads!) I wanted to keep the tangles, Renaissance paper, black and white ink from the old. I replaced the brown ink with pink and made a few changes:

Do you have any tips for working with the Renaissance paper? What are your go-to tangles for using it? Do you use more of a certain color ink?
Thanks for stopping by! Have a fun week!

  1. I like the beautiful colors on the second tile: Your Marasu is lovely and I see an improvement too on the other tangles.
When I draw on Renaissance tiles I always have to pay more attention and I have to draw more carefully, but I see you know that: your result is really nice!

  2. Gorgeous! I love that pink! Your second piece has much more depth. Renaissance tiles are tricky to get used to. I like patterns that lend themselves to shading so you can go in deep with graphite for shadow and the white gel pen for highlights. I do a lot of Mooka, pokeleaf, sandswirl and Tipple everywhere;-)

  3. Je préfère le dessin en rose pour la couleur mais aussi parce que le motif central est plus équilibré.Très beau !

I prefer the pink tile for its colors but also because the central tangle is more balanced. Beautiful !

  6. I think the first tile is lovely. Gentle sepia pencil as shading might bring out the wonderful Purk a bit more. The second is so pretty in pink. I used to really dislike the Renaissance tiles since they are so delicate to work on. I have found that slowing down, staying light in pressure, and adding rich colors has made me fall in love with those tiles!

  7. Happy Tangleversary! Hard to believe that it is already a year since we spent those lovely days in Providence. I always enjoy reading your blog and seeing what you are creating!

  8. Both are loving, however the last one is 'richer' (is that a correct word for it?)

  9. Well I do like them both but pink is not my favourite colour, so the original renaissance colours still work best for me.

  10. Both tiles are very beautiful, but in different ways. I think the first with the "typical" renaissance colors is very well done, but I am drawn to the second one not only because of the color (I love pink), but also because the tangles seems to 'flow' more easily. Must be the confidence in yourself showing! Beautiful!
